time and all went smooth!

An internet
virus started today that is starting to pick up in speed and we are watching
it to see where it goes, we started to see it around 8 am Monday morning
Tuesday update, we have updated our email filters to
include ".zip" and ".cmd" you may notice that files are not able to be sent
through our service, we will open it back up after this goes away.

we broke down and added space for ads to one of the largest sites in the
county, last year getting more then 335,000 hits to one page, If you would

Buying 6 new dot/coms we hope to get the name out there
buy offering some new services to the public, also giving us more exposer
to advertising, soon to be in motion

*Working on Upgrades to system!*
We are in the works for getting Fiber Optics in here and have been
for 2 months now, I will keep you up to date as to when it goes in.... it
will allow us to go after some bigger businesses.
Also we are about to switch over to a new Rack system,
its a 19" Rack our current equipment will fit in the front and will give
us room to expand and host for upto 40 more servers or dedicated COLO (Co-located)
for others that wish to put a server here and have us manage it.
We hope to be all done by Feb 1st.

**Adoption of new Firstserver logo!**
Working
on a logo over the past few months I didnt like any of the ones I came up
with, after thinking about it, I went with one I came up with in Nov. took
the Christmas Holiday to add it to all the pages it needs to be on and
I still have a few pages to go, And we will most likely keep this look and feel for some time to come.
Also updated pages on the rest of the site.

**Good Spam Filtering is here!**
We are now using three ways of filtering spam, they are
RBL (Real Time Block List)
Plus, DSBL (Distributed Server Boycott List)
& server Wide Spam rules that filter by porn words :)
We have had customers go from 40 or 70 spam per day down
to 1 & 2 and I have figured out the rejection rate of a good email getting
bounced is 1 in 50,000 (We have been testing this for 3 months now)
When an email comes in our server checks a database of known Spammers
& Open Relays, before you even get it in your inbox!
Key Words: We also filter by nasty words you wouldnt want to see
Virus Filtering: is also in place We filter .exe / .bat / .pid
We let .zip & pictures go through if you need to send a .exe or program please compress it with Zipit first

As Patches are issued from Microsoft we install them and A New
Year Roll Over was done, that is normally the only time we need to reboot
the server, and that's done at 3AM about every 30 days.

& software loaded clean from CD from the ground up!, after two weeks
now running stable and smooth! worked all the bugs out of the new email server,

**Servers Off Line for 15 Min**
I Unpluged the servers for 15 Min, its
not often this happens but a really nasty storm rolled through with lightning
every one Sec. Not only did I unplug it, I set it in the middle of the room!
Stuff like that passes fast, in cases like that mail does not get lost because
other mail servers will hold onto it till we come back up.

I installed the latest security patches and a new set
of Database Drivers for speed of mdac & ODBC plus I added VBrun6.2 I
had to reboot the server a few times after the installing of all the new
software.

We "were" having a problem with the Weather page that is now
all fixed The Company Yahoo was using (NNI) must have gone out of business
because the picture stopped coming for the highs and lows so I had to look

We "were" having a problem with the DNS servers aiming at the pop.? at our
servers for two hours, we switched name servers and the new servers were set up, No Mail
was lost in the outage.

(1) Buy the Email server software Communigate pro from Stalker, we have been
using in demo mode, we have found it to be stable, secure & loaded with
everything (Cost $2500)

(2) Upgrade the main server to a 2ghz with 3-60gig drives and
move the 1.4 AMD into 2nd place as a SQL or backup server (Cost $2000)
(3) Look into wireless internet and maybe be an ISP for the
"last mile" here in Newnan :) (Cost $ ?)
(4) We May look into an OC3 DSU/CSU + Cisco switch (Cost $ ?)
